Challenge Update: Final

Side note before I get to my updates: I do have a challenge for next year currently in the planning stages. I had hoped to get it up last week, but I left the ideas for it too long and now I’m just hoping I get it up towards the beginning of next month. (Seriously, it is hard for me to get ideas for something that is challenging enough that I won’t just skate through it, but not so challenging I won’t accomplish anything.)

Final challenge update for 2017! Where has my year went? Anyway, I didn’t do as well as I was hoping on several of my challenges, but considering that I had a two month plus hiatus where I read no books at all, I didn’t do too bad.

Notes on my usage of my tags: LGBT means at least one character in the story falls somewhere in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning, Asexual, Aromantic, Intersex, Pansexual, Genderfluid ect group. But I’m not going to write out LGBTQIAPKC or whatever it is we’re up to. If I didn’t look stupid, I’d write LGBT+ – but when I say: LGBT++POC it looks…odd. POC means at least one character in the story is not ‘white’. Perhaps it is only noted by their skin color, or they have a different culture. It gets kind of messy when we start talking stories that don’t take place on Earth, so I just use my best judgment. Aliens means that there is noticeable diversity in a non-human manner. PTSD means at least one character suffers from trauma related panic/anxiety attacks during the course of the story or is taking medication to manage it.

(Managed to finish thirteen series this year and while that is even better than my already hopeful twelve I had planned, I was definitely hoping to finish a few more.) (Okay, so one of these wasn’t actually finished because since I ‘finished’ it, the author has published more in the series. However, there’s a pretty good chance I’ll have the new stories (novel plus a novella) finished before the start of the new year. So it stays.)

Over all, I’m pleased with my challenges this year. I definitely could have done better with my spec fiction challenge and, in an effort to actually have a completed challenge next year, I’m going to be giving it a rather major overhaul. (I’ll be focusing even more on diversity rep and already have several ideas for challenge topics. We’ll see how things work out and I may even be doing a monthly feature of some sort.

2017 Challenge Update – 3rd Quarter

It was quite an adventure transferring my challenge from my last blog over to this one and reformatting it. Anyway, I’m not doing as well as I would have liked by now because I had a full two months this spring where I didn’t read any books at all – and I only read two books in June. So, yeah… Not sure I’ll make my goals, but it’s been fun so far.
