I really don’t have much to say right now. I’m going to be taking a hiatus next month – which will get it’s own post to update you about that later (Wednesday, I hope) – and other than making that decision, my month has been pretty awful.

Except for reading. I’ve gotten a ton of reading done. (Mostly because I’ve not felt good this last week and a half and I’ve been reading like crazy.)

Other Books of the Month

… Yeah, I actually read 15 books this month. And DNF’d 4. … Huh.

You guys might remember that I finally broke down and joined Netflix. Well, I’ve been exposed to some shows that I’ve been interested in and never really tried before. Some of them haven’t worked out so well, but there’s a few that I’ll be continuing.

I watched season one of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I surprised myself how much I like the show. It’s quirky and has more going for it than just humor.

I also watched season of of The Fosters. I like the show, but I think it’s going to be one of those ‘occasionally’ shows because it’s a bit too soap-y ish and contemporary for me to really love.

I am obsessed with this song. I’m not a fan of either Coldplay or The Chainsmokers. (In fact, I’d say that I don’t like either of them…) But I LOVE this song. And I bet it seriously doesn’t help that I kind of hear this as a theme song (okay, one of many) for a couple in a story that I’m writing.

I’ve also been playing some video games this month. (For the week-ish that I actually felt good…) Anyway, I’ve been making progress in the Mass Effect trilogy. Yeah, I know, I’m terribly behind. But, hey, at least I can get advice when I run into trouble. (I’m currently replaying the first one, because I was a little unhappy with my Shepard in 2, but I’m not sure I’ll import him right away. I might play through 2 ans 3 once each before importing… Haven’t decided yet.)

So, that’s April shut, I hope May’s better and I hope you guys have an awesome month!

    1. Considering that I started Mass Effect 2 and didn’t finish it before deciding that I needed to do a COMPLETE playthrough of the first one, (because I missed a lot!) my feelings on those characters is subject to change. From the 10-ish hours I did play: Kasumi. I adore her and wish she hadn’t been just a dlc character because she is awesome! (And I already played her loyalty mission and LOVED it!) I also like Garrus and Jack and think I’ll like Samara quite a bit. Honestly, I think the squadmates improved by leaps and bounds in 2 over 1. (I seriously couldn’t understand why anyone would care to romance Garrus in 1 and, after playing a bit in 2, I think I might get it. Though I am playing through as maleShep because I’ve been unable to really click with femShep, so I love the friendship between maleShep and Garrus when the latter is first introduced in 2.) From 1, I think my favorite might be Tali – if I can just get over the way she seems more like a vehicle to explain Quarian culture to Shepard rather than a character in her own right. (Yeah, I know Tali is in 2, but…I think I just made it to the point where she joins the team. And I’ve barely talked to her in 2, so we’ll see how/if her personality has changed.)

(I’m currently reading the sequel to Mindtouch and I love it, too, so I do hope you enjoy!)

      1. Seriously. When I first started the ME series, everyone was telling me I HAD to romance Garrus, but then I met him in ME1 and I was like, “Why the hell would I want to romance THIS guy?” He was underwhelming at best. But he definitely improves in ME2, and his romance plot is really great in ME3. Though, personally, I kind of prefer Thane as a love interest (and just a character in general)–I like soft-spoken, serious people with a penchant for philosophical discussions.

And YES, Kasumi is so underutilized! Her loyalty mission is one of my favourites. Tali isn’t my favourite (I totally agree with you on her being an encyclopedia for Quarian culture), but her loyalty mission is really great and made me appreciate her character a lot more.

And if you plan on doing a second playthrough after you finish, I highly recommend doing one with femshep. She was a little too gruff and grating for my tastes in ME1, but Jennifer Hale’s range grows so much in ME2/3, and some of her emotional scenes just completely broke me down.

I hope you enjoy the rest of it–it’s a wild, incredible ride. 😀
